Good Morning! It's about 3 am and I still can't sleep. Sunday night was a late night and I was so excited about the Marina area and my first day at work coming, I couldn't barely sleep a wink. I went to sleep around 1:30 am Sunday night/Monday morning and woke up about 4:30 am Monday morning. I was dragging ass after lunch yesterday and went to sleep about 9:00 pm last night only to wake up at 2:30 am today. My mind has not shifted over yet, so I'll give in a bit to see if this doesn't help. Writing is therapeutic, right?
Breakfast here at the hotel is a major spread. You've seen an American breakfast buffet before, well, add spring rolls, noodles, sardines, and some other oddities and you've got an idea of what this Asian buffet is all about. I didn't take any pictures today, so I'm afraid you'll have to use your imagination here folks, sorry. To continue on the food theme, the client took us to lunch today to a "food court". The concept is fairly standard, 15-20 different vendors all around a central seating area. Well, this one was smack in the middle of a warehouse district. We parked next to forklifts and stacked pallets on a dirt road. Then we were led through the alley to the front of the building where we found scores of plastic patio furniture just off the main road and then found the entrance to the food court. Nothing too wild like fried bugs or live squid swimming around, but they had choices from simple fried rice, to curry with lamb and soups with fish and shrimp. I wasn't up for all the excitement and simply pointed to the first mushroom and greens stir fry with chicken (I think) that I found and pointed to order. That set me back a whole $2.50 plus another buck for a coke. Not bad and they bring the dish to your table. Sandra is vegetarian, so she had a fried rice dish with egg and a can of jasmine tea.
Our hosts and client, Cloud Pay, are a mix of Indian, Filipino, and Chinese. Their client, Siemens, have offices in Singapore, Shanghai, and Batam Indonesia. Quite the mix. The Singapore facility is using our product, but they've had major turnover and all of the original project owners have left and we are here to "reinvigorate" the users and get them back on track. Schedule based overtime only works when the schedules are maintained, and as you can guess, they haven't been, so there is a big amount of unexpected OT that's got everyone angry as poked hornets. We took a taxi to the tech center where Cloud Pay is located and were treated to our first rush hour experience. The front desk told us it would take 15 minutes, but it was actually more like 45. Nevertheless I was entertained by all the lush greenery and modern architecture this tropical island has to offer. There were some very impressive new condos being built that were stacked across and staggered on top of each other that are just amazing, but the name escapes me now. More on that later, I promise. I also promise more pictures, but yesterday was mostly business. All work and no play makes Beely a dull boy....miss you Cinny.
Peace and love to all!!! Going to try to sleep again...
